Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced SMT Maintenance Technician to support and maintain our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing operations within a fast-paced Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and continuous improvement of SMT production equipment to ensure maximum uptime, quality, and productivity.

The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with SMT placement machines, screen printers, reflow ovens, AOI/SPI systems, conveyors, feeders, and associated production equipment used in high-volume electronics manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on SMT production equipment including placement machines, printers, conveyors, reflow ovens, AOI, and SPI systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software-related equipment issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures, replacing defective components as required.
  • Perform machine calibrations, alignments, and verification procedures to maintain process capability.
  • Support SMT production teams during machine setups, changeovers, and new product introductions (NPI).
  • Maintain feeder systems, nozzles, vision systems, conveyor systems, and board handling equipment.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities for process improvements and increased equipment reliability.
  • Assist with installation, qualification, and validation of new SMT equipment and production lines.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and spare parts inventory.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, throughput, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and ESD requirements.
  • Assist in training operators on basic machine operation and preventive maintenance procedures.

Equipment Experience Preferred:
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting one or more of the following:
  • Juki SMT Placement Machines
  • Fuji SMT Equipment
  • Mydata / Mycronic Systems
  • Hitachi SMT Machines
  • Siemens SMT Platforms
  • MPM or DEK Screen Printers
  • Koh Young SPI Systems
  • Yestech AOI Systems
  • Omron AOI Systems
  • Heller Reflow Ovens
  • Wave Solder Equipment
  • Conveyor and Board Handling Systems

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree, Technical Diploma, Military Electronics Training, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of SMT equipment maintenance experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of SMT assembly processes, solder paste printing, component placement, reflow soldering, AOI, and SPI.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, motors, sensors, servo systems, and industrial controls.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards and electronics manufacturing practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Juki Maintenance Certification.
  • Fuji Maintenance Certification.
  • Experience with AOI and SPI programming.
  • IPC-A-610 Certification.
  • Experience supporting NPI and process validation activities.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems.
  • Experience installing and commissioning SMT production lines.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and production equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment.
